Bloodwood Blooddrop Earrings
Blooddrop earrings carved from Bloodwood, with hypoallergenic stainless steel hooks.
Bloodwood trees - which are actually several unrelated species - are known as such because they “bleed” a dark red sap when cut. Hailing from South America, this is the only imported wood of the collection, which I only own because a block was gifted to me by a fellow woodworker clearing out his scrap pile. This open-grained hardwood has a rich red colour and smells darkly sweet when carved, almost like caramel or brown sugar.
