Beetle-Bark Spruce Bottle Openers
Bottle openers made from locally-sourced bark-beetle damaged spruce, inlaid with red epoxy
I started collecting pieces of bark-beetle damaged wood while hiking two summers ago, and developed this infill technique. When done in red, it reminds me a lot of capillary beds. In harvesting I take care to ensure the damage hasn’t compromised the wood’s strength and integrity.
Note on variation:
These pieces are hand-made from live-edge wood. You can expect small variations in colouring, grain pattern, and shape from the depicted image. I can’t control what the beetles decide to do!
